About Matt:
Nashville native and MNPS grad
- Graduated from Hume-Fogg High School
- Attended Edgehill United Methodist Church where Rev. Bill Barnes, who Nashville’s affordable housing fund is named after, was the pastor
- Parents helped start the first neighborhood association in Nashville
Proven leadership in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors
- Led economic and community development for three mayors over eight years
- During that time, the unemployment rate in Nashville fell from 8.1% to 2.0% and the city added more than 42,000 jobs
- Developed the city’s first small business incentive program, which provided assistance to business owners who invested in neglected neighborhoods
- Was the Chair of the Board of Hands On Nashville during the May 2010 flood
- Spent fifteen years working in the private sector helping companies grow
Has delivered on affordable housing
- While in the Mayor’s Office, developed a 10-year, $750 million affordable housing plan with public and private investment and moved to MDHA, Nashville’s public housing authority, to help implement the plan
- During his three years there, MDHA opened six new mixed-income, affordable housing developments with more than 525 units
- Negotiated with Amazon to invest more than $7.0 million in MDHA’s next mixed-income affordable housing development
Knows how to listen and understands each child is unique
- Most importantly, Matt is married to Crissy Wieck and together they have six children
- Each of the kids has attended public schools in Nashville for some or all of their schooling – except for the youngest, who is only four and she’ll start MNPS next year!
- We know that you have to find the right school for each child and in our house alone we have tried traditional-zoned public, charter, Spanish-immersion, private and magnet schools
- Matt currently serves on the Board of the PTSO at Hillsboro High School
Matt will work tirelessly for you
