Description
Friday, November 10, 2017 at 9:00 am – "This Landscape Transformed: Union Fortification of Tennessee in the American Civil War" – Dr. Thomas Flagel, Author, Historian, and History Professor at Columbia State College. Many people have heard about the battles of Forts Donelson and Henry, the soaring Fort Negley in Nashville, and the mighty Fortress Rosecrans in Murfreesboro, but did you know that there were more than 200 forts across Tennessee during the Civil War? In a multimedia presentation, author Dr. Thomas Flagel will bring these citadels back to life. The stories they hold include how thousands of African Americans help build and guard them, how women were central in their operation, and what these structures did to the land and the course of the war itself.
